Are you at Peak Energy?

Have you ever been sick with the flu when all you wanted to do was lay in bed, but somehow you were unable to take the time you needed to rest?  Maybe you had to manage the kids or complete an important project, so you felt compelled to slog through the exhaustion.  How did that go for you?

You probably felt tired. You certainly had other symptoms, but a distinct lack of energy is always among them.  You weren’t actually physically impaired, there was nothing wrong with your arms and legs, but the energy you needed to get them going was gone.

This is an example of something we can all relate to, the marked difference a drop in your energy level makes.  And we all know this to be true.  We know that sickness makes us tired, and lots of coffee wakes us up.  Yet the subtle changes that impact us gradually are the ones that often go unnoticed.

Are you familiar with the frog in the pot story?  As it goes, a frog will calmly remain in an increasingly heated pot until poor little froggy is boiling, with no apparent awareness of what just happened. It’s a common example because it’s such an accurate illustration of the phenomenon; when the environment changes slowly over a long period of time, we become acclimated to the point where we don’t even realize how damaging it is.

If your symptoms of overwhelm, exhaustion and unhappiness have become normal, it’s time for an energy checkup. Most people don’t realize that many of the regular activities they do every day are energy draining, leaving them feeling overwhelmed, stressed and stuck.

They believe that if they just keep their heads down and plow forward, eventually things will get better.  The water keeps heating, but the change is gradual, and we become accustomed to each new level, so we often don’t recognize the pattern.  Our stress is high, our goals are sidelined, we have no time for ourselves.

I’ve been there.  At a time in my life when I should have been at the top of my game, I was at my lowest point personally.  That experience eventually motivated a 5 year learning journey through multiple related disciplines to identify proven strategies for success.  I know now that when you’re nourished, rested and engaged both physically and emotionally, you’re functioning at your energy peak. You’re more purposeful, resilient and motivated.

If you’ve let your health, relationships or sense of fulfillment lapse because you haven’t had time to prioritize them, you’re functioning below peak energy, and creating a self-fulfilling outcome.   One third of Americans today report being dissatisfied with their lives.  And most don’t realize that a few simple changes to their daily routines can begin to turn down the heat of stress and overwhelm.

Renewed energy leads to greater gain clarity of purpose, and after what may be years of feeling stuck, my clients find they’re ready to begin to move forward with their personal and professional goals.
